Our Service Areas

Democratic Republic of the Congo: Kinshasa

The Democratic Republic of the Congo with a population of 52 million people is situated in Sub-Saharan Africa, a region of the world that is most affected by HIV/AIDS. This country is emerging from a brutal 7-year conflict war which has significant impact in any for HIV/AIDS prevention efforts.

The eastern region has been under the rule of the rebels and out of control of the National HIV/AIDS Control Program. As a result of this war, it is estimated that 3.5 million people have died directly from this war or diseases, starvation and lack of prevention services. Some reports indicate that warring soldiers have used rape, violence or systematic killing as a weapon of terror to punish those who do not support either side. This conflict situation has also dramatically increased poverty and is believed to have contributed to the climbing HIV/AIDS epidemic particularly in the Eastern Congo.

Target Population

Our interventions target the impoverished communities, particularly children and women, the most vulnerable members of these communities. The African Salvation Group wishes to improve access to and the quality of prevention services. We work to empower under-served communities in sub-Saharan Africa to help them break the vicious cycle of poverty and live healthy lives.

Two Core Program Areas

Health:
Health Education/Risk Reduction; Counseling, testing and referral service (CTR); and Prevention Interventions services targeting under-served and high-risk population through public outreach, counseling, and referral services.

Capacity Building & IEC:
Job development, support to education (training), rehabilitation, food security, information and referral services.
