School Supplies Distributed to Congo Children
September 24, 2003
Over one thousand students in Kinshasa, DR Congo benefited from the generosity of ASG supporters. In the presence of the local press corps, African Salvation Group envoy Mr. Yeme Ngoto distributed books and school supplies to school children and educators.
The African Salvation Group has always been staunch advocate of education. We believe that education is the best, long term means for a community to break free from poverty. The children are the heart of every community. Give them the means and they will be prosper.
ASG has been raising funds to help turn their lives around. Today was just such an example. With just $300 collected from our supporters, ASG was able to supply the Catholic primary school "Bambou" in the commune of Masina, Kinshasa of the DR Congo. Each of the students were given a kit containing a notebook, pens and pencils to start their new school year.
The Bambou school has 1312 students of which 546 are orphans of AIDS and 16 whose parents are displaced by the current civil war. The orphans are particularly hard pressed. Not only have they already been traumatized by war and disease, for orphans, basic formal education is usually just a dream. Many of these children are often excluded from schooling for trivial reasons such as not having basic school supplies or their school fee.
Thanks to your help, the African Salvation Group can continue to help as many children as possible.
